"Battle" over TV-format van The Voice

Talpa en John de Mol kunnen een claim bij een Nederlandse rechtbank verwachten van de Ier Michael Barry. Barry beweert namelijk dat hij de bedenker is van het televisieprogramma The Voice. Volgens De Ier heeft hij in 2008 “het idee” geüpload naar de website The TV Writer’s Vault. In de voorwaarden van deze website staat dat gebruikers ideeën die zij op de website bekijken geheim moeten houden en niet mogen exploiteren. Barry stelt dat in 2009 een werknemer van The Entertainment Group (TEG) The TV Writer’s Vault heeft bezocht. TEG werd na haar faillissement overgenomen door Talpa. In 2010 verscheen The Voice of Holland op de Nederlandse televisie. Wat al te toevallig, volgens Barry.
 
Barry begon een rechtszaak in Los Angeles, maar daar werd zijn claim afgewezen omdat de Amerikaanse rechter zich niet bevoegd achtte.
 
Benieuwd of de stoelen in Nederland wel zullen draaien voor Barry.

Talpa and John de Mol can expect a claim at a Dutch court from the Irishman Michael Barry. Barry claims to be the creator of the idea for the tv-show The Voice. According to the Irishman he uploaded "the idea" to the website The TV Writer’s Vault in 2008. The website requires all visitors to keep confidential and not exploit the ideas they view. In 2009, Barry contends, an employee of The Entertainment Group (TEG) visited the website. Talpa subsequently acquired TEG after TEG went into bankruptcy. In 2010, The Voice of Holland premiered in the Netherlands. Too much of a coincidence, according to Barry.
 
Barry initiated a suit in Los Angeles, but the claim brought was dismissed due to lack of jurisdiction.

Let's see whether the chairs will turn for Barry in the Netherlands.
